FUJIFILM GFX100S mirrorless system camera with large-format sensor
The FUJIFILM GFX100S is a mirrorless system camera with a large-format sensor and compact dimensions, powerful processor, five-axis image stabilization, fast and precise autofocus, tilting display and much more. It is aimed at creative photographers and videographers.
The FUJIFILM GFX100S - Compact mirrorless system camera with large-format 102 megapixel sensor
The FUJIFILM GFX100S is the fourth and most advanced mirrorless system camera in the GFX system. Technologically, the FUJIFILM GFX100S builds on the FUJIFILM GFX100 and its concept of a compact, lightweight digital camera with a large-format sensor. Thanks to its handy design and uncompromising performance, the GFX100S can also be used in situations that were previously reserved exclusively for cameras with smaller sensors.
The GFX100S weighs just 900 grams and is comparable in size to most "full-frame" cameras. Nevertheless, it has a large-format 102 megapixel sensor*1, integrated five-axis image stabilization over 6.0 EV stops*2, fast and precise autofocus and the legendary FUJIFILM colour technology. All this makes the GFX100S the ultimate tool for creative photographers and videographers.
Further product features:
102 megapixel sensor with large-format diagonal (55 mm)
X-Processor 4
Integrated five-axis image stabilization
Foldable 8.1 cm (3.2 inch) touchscreen with 2.36 million pixels
Additional display for overlaying shooting information
Fast autofocus down to -5.5 EV
Professional video recording in 4K/30p (incl. F-Log) Wi-Fi. F-Log)
Wi-Fi connectivity and remote control via smartphone
19 film simulation modes (incl. "Nostalgic Negative")
Compact body
900 grams light
102 megapixel sensor for unparalleled image quality
The FUJIFILM GFX100S has a back-illuminated 102 megapixel image sensor with a large-format diagonal of 55 mm. It is approximately 1.7 times larger than a conventional 35 mm sensor ("full-frame"), which enables a very shallow depth of field and an exact separation of sharpness and blur. The camera also offers impressive dynamic range, accurate color reproduction and outstanding high-ISO capabilities.
For more than 86 years, the FUJIFILM name has been synonymous with unparalleled image quality. Many iconic photos and films have been created on FUJIFILM material, which is appreciated for its characteristic color reproduction by users all over the world. With the 19 film simulations of the FUJIFILM GFX100S, the legendary FUJIFILM colors are available practically at the touch of a button. For the first time, the camera can be used with the new "Nostalgic Negative" film simulation, which reproduces the look of New American Color Photography from the 1970s. The images captured with this feature are characterized by soft colours and a great wealth of detail. Warm highlights and saturated depths lend the images a lyrical mood.
Fast autofocus down to -5.5 EV
Almost the entire surface of the GFX100S's large-format image sensor is equipped with phase-detect AF pixels. Unlike conventional medium format cameras, the GFX100S therefore has powerful automatic focusing and can focus on the subject quickly, even at low light levels of -5.5 EV*3, in up to 0.18 seconds. For moving subjects, the X-Processor 4 and a new AF algorithm enable precise tracking AF with intelligent face and eye detection.
Integrated Five-Axis Image Stabilization
The GFX100S features an advanced five-axis image stabilization system (IBIS) that makes sharp freehand shooting with ultra-high-resolution cameras much easier. Compared to the GFX100, the IBIS unit of the GFX100S is around 20 percent smaller and 10 percent lighter, yet achieves 6 EV stops of compensation according to the CIPA standard despite its smaller size. Compared to the GFX100, this represents an improvement of 0.5 EV stops.
Compact and weatherproof camera body
The FUJIFILM GFX100S weighs just 900 grams, making it exceptionally light for a camera with a large-format sensor. With its dimensions of 15 cm x 10.4 cm x 8.7 cm (WxHxD), it is comparable in size to many 35 mm cameras, although its body houses a 102 megapixel sensor that is almost twice as large. The compact dimensions have been made possible by the new IBIS unit, a revised shutter mechanism and a smaller but more powerful lithium-ion battery. In direct comparison with the GFX100, the new GFX100S is around 6 cm smaller and 500 g lighter. The robust and ergonomic handle ensures optimally balanced handling and fatigue-free operation of the camera even during long periods of use.
The GFX100S is protected against splash water and dust and can be used at low temperatures down to minus 10 degrees Celsius. The robust magnesium housing is additionally reinforced around the bayonet mount to guarantee the best possible stability when using larger and heavier Lens.
Proven operating concept
The controls of the GFX100S will be familiar to newcomers and experienced users of the GFX system alike. In addition to the exposure modes (PASM), the large control dial on the top offers six user-defined profiles for direct access to frequently used settings. A switch offers the option of quickly switching between photo and video recording. In addition, the ergonomics of the focus lever have been revised, allowing even more intuitive selection of the focus points.
The camera has an 8.1 cm (3.2 inch) LC display on the back with 2.36 million pixels and 100 percent image field coverage. The display has a touch function and can be tilted 90 degrees upwards, 45 degrees downwards and 60 degrees to the right. There is a 4.5 cm (1.8 inch) secondary LC display on the top, which serves as an information display. Here, important shooting settings (shutter speed, aperture, ISO value and exposure compensation) and other relevant parameters, such as the remaining capacity of the memory card, can be displayed as required.
High-resolution 4K videos with a medium format look
The GFX100S saves high-resolution 4K/30p moving images at 400 M/bit in 10-bit 4:2:0 F-Log format directly on the memory card or as 12-bit 4:2:2 ProRes RAW via HDMI on an external recorder. The large-format sensor not only enables an attractive cinema look with ultra-shallow depth of field, but also a wide dynamic range and impressive high-ISO performance.
videos can be recorded in the classic widescreen format (16:9) or in the DCI format (17:9) developed for digital cinema. Common compression standards, such as H.264 and H.265, as well as professional log modes, such as Hybrid Log Gamma (HLG) and F-Log, are also available. With the latter, the video signal is matched to the camera sensor so that the maximum contrast range can be used during post-production, for example for color and brightness correction.
If 4K/30p 12-bit video data is saved directly to an Atomos Ninja V monitor recorder via HDMI, it can be output in ProRes RAW data format, which allows maximum flexibility in post-production. Simultaneous output of raw data/log material and film simulations is also possible.
