Form factor
With the new 50-150mm f/2.0 G Master, Sony presents for the first time a full-frame telephoto zoom with a continuous aperture of f/2.0. This special feature makes the lens a real milestone!
Even if the difference between an aperture of f/2.8 and f/2.0 may seem small on paper, it doubles the light yield. Sony was able to demonstrate just how big this difference is in practice at the end of last year with the 28-70mm f/2.0.
Especially in difficult lighting situations - for example at a wedding in a dark church or at concerts in the evening - the additional aperture stop offers enormous advantages. It can often decide whether you shoot at ISO 3200 or ISO 6400 - and thus achieve significantly better image quality.
Of course, such a large aperture brings with it certain challenges: for f/2.0 you need correspondingly large lens elements. Despite its complex construction, the new 50-150mm is surprisingly compact and light. At around 1.3 kilograms, it is no lightweight, but compared to similar Lens such as the 70-200mm GM, it remains pleasantly manageable.

Design
Visually, Sony remains true to its line: the telephoto zoom has the characteristic white finish, complemented by an elegant silver badge - a trademark of the high-quality G-Master series. To further improve handling, a stable tripod clamp is integrated. Thanks to a well-balanced center of gravity, the Lens is balanced in the hand even when shooting freehand.
If you compare the 50-150mm with the 70-200mm GM II, you will notice that the length has remained almost identical. Only the larger diameter stands out. The 95mm filter diameter cannot be avoided due to the physical requirements of a continuous aperture of f/2.0 - a necessary concession to the enormous speed.
Inside the Lens, Sony relies on proven quality: eleven aperture blades ensure a particularly soft bokeh and a harmonious sharpness gradient. The aperture ring, as on all current GM Lens, can be locked with a switch. The 50-150mm also offers three individually assignable function buttons - a feature that users of Sony lenses already know and appreciate.
Of particular interest to videographers: the Full-Time DMF function. It allows the autofocus to be overridden or finely adjusted during recording - ideal for fluid focus changes and creative focus shifts in dynamic shooting situations.
All in all, the Sony 50-150mm f/2.0 G Master is an innovative tool for anyone who demands the highest standards of light intensity, image quality and handling.

Target group
With the 50-150mm f/2.0 G Master, Sony is primarily targeting photographers and videographers who frequently work in challenging and difficult to control lighting situations - and at the same time need a flexible focal length. Whether at concerts, weddings or in indoor sports documentation: this Lens is made for events where both light intensity and range are crucial.
Another big advantage: thanks to its focal length range, the 50-150mm replaces several classic fixed focal lengths. It effortlessly covers popular focal lengths such as 50mm, 85mm, 105mm or 135mm - and thanks to an impressively short focusing distance of only around 40 centimetres, it also offers enormous flexibility for close-up shots.
Of course, this exceptional performance comes at a price: the 50-150mm is priced at 4,399 euros (RRP). However, given the quality on offer, this price is hardly surprising.
If you are looking for a cheaper alternative, the Tamron 35-150mm is an interesting option.
Sony 50-150mm f/2 GM
This G Master Lens from Sony with its advanced G Master optics delivers impressive image quality with outstanding sharpness and clarity right into the corners. The fast F2 aperture with 11 blades enables clear cropping of the subject with a soft bokeh in the quality of a fixed focal length.

Conclusion
The Sony 50-150mm f/2.0 G Master impresses with its extraordinary combination of high speed and flexible focal length. It really does feel like combining several fast fixed focal lengths in a single, versatile lens - ideal for those who demand the highest standards of image quality and handling.
Concert, event and wedding photographers in particular will benefit from the lens's ability to deliver outstanding performance even in difficult lighting situations. With its outstanding optical quality and sophisticated design, the 50-150mm makes a clear statement: it is one of the most exciting new releases in the field of professional telephoto zooms.
