To further enhance the essential values of the GR series, image quality, responsiveness and compactness, this latest model in the series is equipped with a completely redesigned main body, including Lenses, image sensor and image processor. It features a newly developed APS-C format image sensor and a newly designed Lenses, which together improve image quality while reducing body depth. This new concept has been adopted and further developed from its predecessor, the Ricoh GR III. The new battery also contributes to the extended battery life. For better usability and user-friendliness, the connectivity of this powerful model has also been further improved with an optimized interface to communication devices and new applications.
Newly developed, super-thin, high-performance GR Lenses
The GR IV is equipped with the newly designed GR LENS 18.3 mm F2.8, which combines exceptional image performance with a slim design while retaining the 28 mm angle of view (35 mm equivalent) and large maximum aperture F2.8 of the previous model. The optics consist of seven lens elements in five groups and include glass-molded aspherical lenses, as well as glass elements with a high refractive index and low dispersion. This ensures high-contrast, high-resolution images with sharpness right into the corners with minimal distortion and chromatic aberration.
High-quality, high-resolution images
To increase resolution performance, reproduce rich tonal gradations and improve sensitivity, the GR IV combines a newly developed back-illuminated APS-C CMOS image sensor for higher sensitivity and lower noise with an improved GR ENGINE 7 image processor. With approximately 25.74 effective megapixels and improved image processing, it delivers exceptionally high-quality images with high resolution and richness. The original Ricoh-developed acceleration unit optimizes the signal-to-noise ratio of the sensor data and transfers it to the image processor, enabling ISO values of up to 204,800 for super-high sensitivity photography.
Further developed original SR mechanism
The SR (Shake Reduction) mechanism integrated into the Body effectively compensates for camera shake when the shutter is released. Using a significantly improved compensation algorithm, this five-axis mechanism corrects camera shake by up to six exposure levels.*

Advanced AF system with reduced switch-on time and fast autofocus
The newly designed lens body and optimized switch-on sequence reduce the switch-on time to approx. 0.6 seconds, the shortest value in the GR series. This also simplifies switching to macro mode and retracting the Lenses, which significantly increases the ability to shoot quickly. The fast lens drive and the fast data readout process of the sensor also ensure fast focusing and improved autofocus precision. Overall performance has been optimized, especially in low light and in terms of the accuracy and coverage range of the phase comparison AF system.
Compact, slim and functional body
To improve fast shooting, the GR IV's body has been completely redesigned to be compact, slim and functional, the characteristics of a snapshot camera. It is slimmer than previous GR models and provides a secure grip. The rear thumb grip is ergonomically contoured. Controls have been rearranged and the ADJ lever has been replaced with a rotary dial type for easier operation. The Body is made of a lightweight, sturdy magnesium alloy for improved robustness and reliability when shooting and carrying.
Quickly set the appropriate exposure mode
In Program AE mode, the GR IV offers the new Program Auto Ex function: the exposure mode can be changed instantly to Aperture-Priority AE by turning the front dial or to Shutter-Priority AE by turning the rear dial. In addition, a Snap Distance-Priority AE mode has been added, which achieves deep focus effects by combining the subject distance in snapshot mode and visual depth of field. This expands the exposure mode selection.
New Cinema mode in the Image Control function for more visual expression variety
In addition to the 12 conventional effect modes, the GR IV now offers a new Cinema mode (yellow or green tone) that creates a rich, sophisticated atmosphere with a nostalgic film look. In addition to saturation, hue, brightness, contrast and film grain, two new parameters, strength and size, are adjustable to allow for more diverse visual expressions. Custom settings can be added to the Image Control menu as Custom Mode. Available Image Control modes: Monotone, Soft Monotone, Hard Monotone, High-contrast B+W, Negative Film, Positive Film, Cinema (Yellow), Cinema (Green)
Bluetooth® and WLAN dual communication
The GR IV offers Bluetooth® and WLAN for easy connection with smartphones and tablets. The GR WORLD app, specially developed for the Ricoh GR series, facilitates communication such as image transfer to the smartphone, remote control of the shutter release and transfer of location data to smart devices.
High-resolution LCD display with excellent outdoor visibility
The GR IV has a 3.0-inch LCD with approx. 1,037,000 pixels. The construction of resin-filled touch panel and reinforced protective glass reduces reflection and light scattering and improves outdoor visibility. The "Outdoor Monitor Setting" function automatically adjusts the display brightness to the environment and also offers a practical auto setting.
