Compact wide-angle zoom lens
With the LUMIX S 14-28mm F4-5.6 MACRO, Panasonic is expanding the L-mount system with a new, affordable ultra-wide-angle zoom.
Thanks to its versatile zoom range, the full-frame lens is recommended for wide-angle landscape and architectural shots as well as for atmospheric portraits in which the surroundings are more strongly integrated into the shot thanks to the large angle of view. In addition, there is a macro function with a short closest focusing distance for impressive detail shots. Photographers and videographers will find this lens a flexible tool for many different shooting situations.

The optical system of the LUMIX S 14-28mm F4-5.6 MACRO consists of 14 lens elements in 10 groups, including an aspherical ED (Extra-Low Dispersion) lens, an aspherical lens, three ED (Extra-Low Dispersion) lenses and a UHR (Ultra High Refractive Index) lens. The use of aspherical lenses enables both sharp details and stunning bokeh, while the three ED lenses effectively suppress chromatic aberration.

Despite its compact size and light weight (about 345g), the LUMIX S 14-28mm F4-5.6 MACRO offers 0.25x (at 14mm) to 0.5x (at 28mm) macro capability. The short minimum distance of just 15 centimeters across the entire zoom range makes it easy to shoot close-ups with beautiful bokeh.

The LUMIX S 14-28mm F4-5.6 MACRO focuses quickly and quietly, working smoothly with the camera's high-precision AF system. For manual focusing, the zoom offers two approaches. It can be individually set for linear or non-linear operation.

The LUMIX S 14-28mm F4-5.6 MACRO excels at video recording, offering professional features such as micro-step aperture control for smooth exposure changes and a mechanism to suppress the "focus breathing" effect that can occur with interchangeable lenses used for still photography. This refers to the fact that when focusing, the angle of view also changes slightly at the same time. With the LUMIX S 14-28mm F4-5.6 MACRO, this effect is minimized.

Thanks to its robust, dust- and splash-proof1 construction, the ultra-wide-angle zoom is also suitable for use in harsh conditions. This includes even low temperatures down to -10º Celsius. A fluorine coating on the front lens element repels oil and water. Filters can be attached via a 77mm diameter thread.

The LUMIX S 14-28mm F4-5.6 MACRO and the LUMIX S 20-60mm F3.5-5.6 have the same body length and the controls are also in the same positions. This brings practical advantages when the camera is mounted on a gimbal, for example. Since the weight and center of gravity of both lenses are nearly identical, only minimal balance adjustments are required when changing lenses on the gimbal.
With the new LUMIX S 14-28mm F4-5.6 MACRO (S-R1428), the LUMIX S 20-60mm F3.5-5.6 (S-R2060) and the LUMIX S 70-300mm F4.5-5.6 MACRO O.I.S. (S-R70300), LUMIX S users now have three affordable zoom lenses that cover the commonly used focal length range from ultra-wide-angle 14mm to 300mm telephoto. Each of these Lenses, when used with LUMIX S5 series cameras, offers high optical performance in a compact system.

The LUMIX S 14-28mm F4-5.6 MACRO is a qualified product for the LUMIX PRO program. Designed to support LUMIX users when they need it most, the LUMIX PRO Program offers a range of benefits to members - not only in their own countries, but also in countries they visit for business.
